Questions we hear most
How do I preserve my wedding bouquet for a shadow box?
The most common method is pressing and drying your flowers. Hang the bouquet upside down in a cool, dry place for two to three weeks, or press individual blooms between heavy books lined with parchment paper. Silica gel is another option for flowers you want to keep their three-dimensional shape. Once fully dried, the flowers can be pinned or adhered inside your shadow box.
What items do people typically put in a wedding shadow box?
Dried bouquet flowers are the most popular, followed by the wedding invitation, cake topper, garter, champagne cork, a swatch of veil or dress fabric, printed photos, ring boxes, and small pieces of sheet music or readings from the ceremony. There's no wrong combination, it's your day, and these are the pieces that mattered most to you.
What size shadow box works best for wedding keepsakes?
For a bouquet-centered display, a 16 by 20 inch or 18 by 24 inch shadow box with at least 2 inches of depth works well. If you're including a full invitation alongside flowers and other items, consider going larger, a 20 by 24 inch frame gives you room to spread things out without the display feeling crowded.
Will a shadow box protect dried flowers from deteriorating?
Yes. Once sealed inside a shadow box with UV-protective glazing, dried flowers are shielded from dust, moisture, and the ultraviolet light that causes fading. The enclosed environment slows deterioration significantly compared to leaving flowers out in the open. Many of our customers have displays that still look beautiful years later.
Can I build the shadow box with my partner as a project?
Absolutely, and we hear from couples who do this all the time. Many people turn it into a first anniversary activity: pull out the keepsakes, choose the layout together, and pin everything in place. Our shadow boxes open easily from the back, so arranging and rearranging is simple.
